"Strut with coquetry has been called "Chaam" (in Farsi); because a person who behaves with coquetry acts exceptional and smart"

خرامیدن بناز را از این جهت چامیدن و چمیدن گویند که شخص در حالت ناز چم و خم می رود.

The Chaam Trio was established in 2020 by a group of Iranian musicians based in Toronto. The trio focuses on improvisation, aiming to reflect and transform life experiences into music. The group comprises immigrants with diverse musical backgrounds, each having travelled under unique circumstances. Their performances aim to share their journeys and interweave traditional Persian roots with Western culture, bridging the gap between Eastern tradition and contemporary Western techniques. The music of the Chaam Trio embodies the intersection of these two worlds, characterized by a blend of chaos, harmony, delicacy, and intensity. The group aims to express the unexpected and challenging experiences of being an immigrant while embracing their path and forging new lives. Traditional Iranian poems, vocal and musical phrases are seamlessly integrated with contemporary classical music and extended techniques in the trio's compositions. Since its inception in 2020, Chaam has performed at various events across Canada, including Color Our World (a virtual fundraiser for the Rainbow Railroad), Music at the Lawn at Stratford Gallery, Promise of Freedom (a co-presentation with Array Music), Heliconian hall, and several online concerts. The works of the Chaam Trio have been broadcast on CBC Music and VOA Farsi.
