Often, Iranian architecture utilizes symbolic geometry, structured to appear like complex tessellations. A tessellation is the covering of a surface using one or more geometric shapes (typically triangles, squares, and hexagons) called ?les, with no overlaps and no gaps. Tessellations form a class of patterns found in nature, whether as hexagonal cells in a honeycomb or the diamond-shaped scales that pattern snakeskin. In this workshop, participants create a tessellation using art materials- paper, paint, and stamps. A tactile tessellation table is also available for absolute beginners.
