Sanaz Nakhjavani

Qanun, Piano

Sanaz Nakhjavani is born and raised in Tehran, Iran. She finished my BA degrees in Music and Spanish language and literature in Iran, Tehran. In 2008 I moved to Istanbul, Turkey to continue her studies in Turkish music and Kanun performances and I accomplished an MA degree in the mentioned field from Istanbul Technical University Turkish music conservatory. to enhance her kanun performance skills she benefited from the mentorship of the master of kanun Ahmet Meter. She achieved her Montessori training after immigrating to Canada and holds a MACTE Diploma of Montessori Elementary Teaching Certificate as well as a certificate in understanding interventions and therapies in a Montessori setting from Loyola University Maryland.

She has performed with different ensembles since 1998 in Tehran and continued
taking part in concerts while she was in Istanbul where she had the opportunity of performing with different ensembles such as Mixta; Spanish music with Turkish instruments and free improvisation ensembles and a duet of soprano, electronics and kanun. She has also contributed to various albums, the most important of which are, Showqname (2012), From Rey to Roum (2013) and Rehavi (2014),Hezar Gisou (2018), and Golestan Ajam (2021). She also performed with different groups and festivals after moving to Canada in 2014 , the significant ones are Spiral Modes (founder), Andalib Ensemble and Blue Dot, Silk Road Improvisation Jam Session and ICM conference in San Diego, Sounds of Persia and The Echo’s of Ecstasy.
