Professor Khatereh Sheibani (York University)
Khatereh Sheibani is a scholar and educator of Middle Eastern and Iranian cinemas and
cultures at York University, Toronto, Canada. Khatereh has a doctorate degree in
Comparative Literature and Film Studies from the University of Alberta, Canada. Her
book titled The Poetics of Iranian Cinema: Aesthetics, Modernity, and Film after the
Revolution (2011) was published by I.B.Tauris, UK. She has co-edited one special issue
of Iran Namag, on Abbas Kiarostami (University of Toronto Press, 2018) and edited
another issue of Iran Namag on Radio Iran (in press, Summer 2023). Khatereh has
written multiple articles on topics related to gender, religion, ethnicity, culture, and
Middle Eastern and Persian media and literature. She has written two novels (in Persian) titled Blue Bird Café (Toronto, 2022) and Hotel Iran (in press) and published poems in journals and newspapers.
